ABOUT THE MAC
The McEachern Art Center, commonly called The MAC, is Mercer University’s dynamic contemporary art space located in downtown Macon, Georgia. It functions both as a public art gallery and as a creative hub for students and community members alike.
A Place for Artistic Exploration
While The MAC hosts exhibitions featuring contemporary art, it also serves as a platform for students from Mercer University’s Art + Design Department to show work, experiment, and engage with the broader art world outside traditional classrooms. This space offers:
Museum-quality gallery exhibition space that are free and open to the public
An additional small, exhibition space enclosed for installation and video
Working studios and dedicated areas where students create, develop, and refine their artistic practice
Projects that support professional development, including curated shows, markets, and artist talks
The “Front Porch” of the Art & Design Department
The MAC is often described as Mercer University’s “front porch” downtown — a welcoming, accessible space where the University’s art and design community connects with the public. It’s meant to be a place of reflection, conversation, and creative exchange that bridges campus life with the Macon arts scene.
